The Joy of Homemade Oreos: A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Oreo Biscuits | The Food Diaries
Hello, bakers and cookie lovers!
Today, I am so excited to share how you can make homemade Oreos, otherwise known as Oreo biscuits/buskuits. You read that right: homemade Oreos from scratch!
I've always loved Oreos because, after all, I'm a cookie lover. But have you ever had the desire to know what's inside those great wafers and wonderful creamy fillings? So, I decided to just make my own, and this recipe turned out to be a great revelation.
Here is the recipe...
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the wafers:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract For the filling:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Instructions
2. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, soda, and salt.
3. Cream the sugar and butter in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
4. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
7. Use a cookie cutter or cut into circles for fun shapes.
8. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until firm to the touch.
Filling:
1. Beat the butter and the powdered sugar until creamy.
2. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
Assembly:
1. Allow the wafers to cool completely.
2. Spread a little of the filling on half of a wafer.
3. Place another wafer on top to make your Oreo!
• Mix a pinch of salt into the filling, so there's a salty-sweet contrast.
• Fold in some other type of chocolate for texture, or nuts for the same chew. Why I Love This Recipe
• Homemade Oreos are a game changer in that what really comes through is, of course the freshness and quality of ingredients.
