Cardamom Snickerdoodles: A Sweet and Spicy Delight | The Food Diaries


 Hello, bakers and confection aficionados alike! Today, I am going to present to you a unique and tasty twist on the old favorite: Cardamom Snickerdoodles! Pillow-soft, chewy, and spice-rich with the lushness of cardamom, sugar, and that bit of crunch from that wonderful snickerdoodle goodness.

Loving Indian food and Scandinavian baking, I had wanted to come up with a cookie that brought the best of both worlds together. Well, I did, and my sweet and spicy treat is ready for any time.

The Recipe...

Here is what you will need:

    • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 3/4 cups white granulated sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 3 tablespoons cinnamon sugar --- see notes. 

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, cardamom and salt.
3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract.
5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
6. In a small bowl mix together cinnamon and sugar.
7. Roll dough into balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Then, roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
8. Place balls onto prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart from one another.
9. For 10-12 minutes, or until edges are set and centers slightly soft.
10. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes:

To make the cinnamon sugar, simply mix together equal parts cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.

• If you prefer a more potent cardamom taste, you can easily add 1 teaspoon or even more if you want.

• These cookies are best fresh, but they also store really well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
